Jasper returned to us the first week of September because of "behavior problems".
I was told he can't be mounted from the ground or mounting block without taking off, that he won't canter in the arena without bucking and is overall spooky.
I gave him time to settle back into his old/new herd until the beginning of October 1st. That evening I tacked him up to see how he would do.Well, it took about 15 min to get the "mounting problem" straightened back out, both from ground and mounting block. Unfortunately it was too late to go for a ride that evening so I took him on his first trail ride October 3rd by myself. He wasn't spooky or crazy at all. All he needs is more miles on the trails again. I rode Jasper plenty of times before he got adopted on my own property and at public state parks and he did just fine. I didn't find the time to ride Japer again until October 22nd and I took him into the arena. I've always ridden Jasper in a bit less side pull but I decided to work him in a simple snaffle training bit simply to work on him becoming more round and soft and he took it no problem.
I really don't have any problems working with this little guy and I didn't encounter any "behavior problems".
I will say though, before he was returned I went to go see him and he tried to bolt on me once but the second this boy understands who's on top of him he will try his best to please. Jasper is one of those horses that will take advantage of you if he knows he stands a chance to be in charge but he's not a whole lot of horse to be handled. Jasper needs an experienced and most of all confident rider! He loves to burn miles on the trails and this time I will only adopt him out as a trail horse.
He gets sour doing the same training every day.
If you think you might be his person please message us!
What a fun Sunday morning we had last weekend. Took Jasper to a State Park again. This time we went on a more challenging trail. He had to go up and down narrow path ways covered with roots, stones, deep sand, stairs, go over logs, through creeks etc. A good trail horse needs to be able to figure out on his/her own which way is the safest way taking the next step. He did so well!!! Not completely perfect yet, but it won't take a lot more. He just needs a little more experience. Jasper loves to work and learn!
At our last vet appointment on 09/16/2021 we had some x-rays taken of his leg. He is 100% good to go. Jasper shows a little stud behavior around mares in the herd but not on rides. I know that whoever will adopt him is going to get a great horse. I hate to see him go but he is so ready. You can now apply to adopt him. Please feel free to contact us with any questions.
We took Jasper to a State Park this morning to check out his ability handling different situations.
We pretty much covered everything a trail horse will encounter on public trails. People, kids, dogs, lots of other horses etc. As expected, he did really well. A bit nervous in the beginning but he calmed down quickly. The first creek was very scary, the second one not so much anymore. I had the lead with him the whole time, too. Exept going through the creeks. A little more training and he will be ready to go.
His work ethic is great! Jasper is very comfortable and just like any other horse likes going bitless a lot more.
Jasper loads like a champ, stands for the farrier, fly spray and bath no problem. He's utd on everything.
Coggings, vaccines, dentals, deworming, trim. He's also chipped and registered to Paint Pony Haven.
We think Jasper would be absolutely perfect for someone who really likes to burn miles on the trails.
He likes to move forward.
If you are interested in him, feel free to contact us with any questions about him or our adoption process.
I took Jasper on his real first trail ride today.
So far I wasn't able to do it because the bugs were so bad, no amount of fly spray helped.
He did really, really well! Considering the fact that we went out alone I would even say amazing!
In the beginning he started walking backwards trying to get away but nothing crazy. No bucking or rearing.
Once the other horses were out of sight he moved forward very nicely. The boy has a nice, comfortable trot. I have no idea if or how much trail experience he has from his past but he's got a good head on his shoulders! Not spooky at all. If he sees something he's not sure about, you can tell he thinks about it instead of going crazy.
All this flashy boy needs is some miles. I think he will be ready for adoption soon.
Jasper stands at a nice comfortable 15.2/15.3 hh.
If you are interested in giving him a forever home, feel free to contact us with any questions you might have.
We are happy to say that Jasper got the go-ahead from the vet to slowly start his training.
We took him on one short trail ride and he did well.
Obviously he hasn't been ridden in quite a while so he needs some refreshing. I think once we start putting some miles on him, he will become a great trail horse.
Jasper is a fun horse to be around. His personality is great!
If you are looking for a horse you might want to keep an eye on his progress. He is definitely quite the looker!
