More about Red

Update 02/10/2022

Here is a late update about our sweet little Red. Everybody that has been following her story knows we have tried just about everything to get this little horse sound. From corrective shoeing, injections and finally getting a neurectomy done back in September 2021.

On January 10, 2022 we had her coffin joint and fetlock injected again with IRAP. Unfortunately, that didn't help her soreness and we actually ended up taking her to the clinic 4 days later because she showed some severe lameness and we wanted to make sure there is no infection going on caused by the injections. Luckily, that wasn't the case.

After 1.5 years working on her we made the decision that Red will be staying with us forever.

She's going to continue to be a high maintenance horse and we will do everything possible to keep her as comfortable as possible and as long as possible.

Red's vet bill for the injections was $232 and her hospitalization was $319. Total: $551

Any donations towards her vet bill would be greatly appreciated!

You can also become a sponsor for Red. Come love on her, brush her and take her for walks on our property for only $20/visit.

Since Red is a very smart and good girl she will be also used as a therapy horse.

Update 12/14/2021

Little Miss Red had to see the vet twice. Dr. Lauren came on November 29, 2011 to take a look at her front left because she started going lame on it about a week before and we wanted to make sure her neurectomy is still working. She did a lameness exam, nerv blocking and x-rays. She found a little abscess which she opened.
The next few days we soaked her abscess and put drawing salve on it but nothing ever came out.
Her lameness didn't improve so Dr. Johnson came out on December 9, 2021.
Another lameness exam  and more x-rays. She has a little arthritis in her fetlock but Dr. Johnson thinks that Red scared some soft tissue. He also put her on different shoes  with a 3 degree wedge pad to improve her angle.
Unfortunately, Red is back on stall rest for at least another month. Our poor little girl just wants to be outside.

Her vet bill on November 29,2021 was: $592
Her vet bill on December 9, 2021 was: $647
Total for both days: $1239
Please consider a small donation to help with her vet bills! Thank you and God bless!

Update 11/05/2021

Finally some freedom and getting to roll in the dirt after 6 weeks of jail time.
We've reached the next step in Red's recovery after her navicular surgery. After 4 weeks stall time and 2 more weeks in a small paddock she gets to go out in a smaller pasture with her friend Lilly who stood by her side the whole time by her own choice.
Red still needs her legs wrapped for at least 2 more weeks. Her next check up is November 8th when we have our big vet appointment. Cross your fingers for her that everything went well so far.

Update 10/23/2021

Today we reached the next step in Red's recovery from her neurectomy surgery.

Hubby set up a little paddock for her. I  sure hope she can join the herd again in a couple weeks.

Update 10/08/2021

Red's recovery is going great and she is walking well. We took some pictures of the incisions.

She's not happy about being inside so much but she gets to come out a couples times a day to graze a little.
Her vet bill is $1773. Please consider donating towards her bill.

Thank you!

Update 09/26/2021

I picked up Red from the clinic today. As of now, it looks like her  neurectomy surgery was a success.Never seen her move that well!  Hopefully everything goes well during recovery.
She´s going to be on stall rest for about 6 - 8 weeks.

Update 09/24/2021

Red  had her neurectomy surgery done today at the clinic and the vet thinks  it went really well. Tomorrow he's going to check if there is still  sensation left. Hopefully he won't have to go back in. The plan is to  pick her up Sunday early afternoon if everything works out.
I will be taken Stella with me on Sunday because her surgery is scheduled for Monday morning. Please  consider donating a few dollars. Between the two of them we are looking  at a vet bill around $4000!!! Our vet bills this year are already  beyond $12000. Every little bit helps and is greatly appreciated!

All donations are tax deductible because we have 501 c3 status!
Thank you for your help!!!

Update 09/23/2021

Tomorrow morning Red is having her neurectomy surgery. I  dropped her of at the clinic earlier this afternoon. After going back  and forward on taking this step, we decided it's time to do it.

Since our last update on her, she went more lame and  since we tried everything else, this is all we have left to try to help  her. Hopefully everything is going to go well.

This surgery is not going to be cheap. We are looking at  $1000 at least. We've had a lot of vet bills the last couple month. Any  little donation would be greatly appreciated
